Welcome to San Juan
Welcome to San Juan, where tens of thousands of SEIU members live and work. San Juan is Puerto Rico’s most important seaport, and it’s brimming with activity as the island’s manufacturing, financial, cultural, and tourism hub.
And helping deliver the quality services needed to keep the economy in motion are more than 37,000 members of SEIU Local 1996SPT and SEIU Local 1199UGT. Together, they make SEIU the largest union in Puerto Rico.
These workers are a critical part of Puerto Rico’s economic, cultural, and public life. They provide quality care at the Administración de Servicios Medicos--the largest medical center in the Caribbean--and other healthcare facilities. They clean and maintain the public schools and other well-known buildings and landmarks across the island. And they work in state agencies such as the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, and other offices.
By uniting their strength, SEIU members have become the leading voice for properly-funded, quality public services in Puerto Rico. They have fought for and won better training and more funding for education and other essential public services.
The working women and men of SEIU in Puerto Rico welcome you to the island they are proud to call home.
